Brett's obsession with Radio Control

Well, I think the title sums it up. I've been obsessed with Radio Control (RC) cars and planes (gliders actually) since I was a kid. There is something incredibly fascinating about having complete control over something which is remote. I still don't quite understand the feeling, but it's just as true as it ever was. Just to put things in perspective I became an Engineer to keep playing with "toys" like this..

And actually, I still am. Lately I've been flying my planes occasionally out at Torrey Pines Gliderport, beautiful place to fly. And the Grasshopper resides in the lab at UCSD. We take it out for some test runs and stunts, and occasionally find something useful for it to do: we pull cables around our suspended ceiling with it... But it's not just that. I actually use similar stuff for some of the research we do, there's this cool software that one guy wrote that controls an RC car using a camera! (Gotta love grad school). I'll have more details on this project later, I'm probably going to do some work to extend that s/w so we can drive the car in an outdoor setting.
