I have graduated from UCSD with an M.S. with lots of help from Dr. Mohan Trivedi my advisor, my CVRR friends, and my family (especially Debbie!).
I have videos that I used during my thesis presentation of the MIA (Mobile Interactive Avatar) in action, however they are big files. Just in case you are interested (and patient), I'll post those here for you to look at. These all use excellent DivX compression that you may need to download to view the videos.
Here are some videos of my thesis software in action that were done on an unfinished version. They are all the same video, just different versions for different bandwidth connections. (To save these to your HD - shift click em')
I had found a way to convert a Windows Media Video File (.WMV) to an AVI. But it doesn't work anymore, something strange is going on. I found some other utilities that claimed to do it, but didn't work very well. You can read more about it here. But I think that the inability to get videos OUT of wmv format makes it useless for my purposes. Stick with AVI or MOV and use some heavy-duty compressor like Cinepak or Indeo, or maybe DivX. Actually DivX does an amazing job of compression, puts everything else to shame!.
The UCSD CVRR Mobile Interactive Avatar (MIA) has come leaps and bounds lately, thanks mostly to Andrew's attention. The MIA sports 3 cameras (including 1 Omni-directional camera which is sometimes viewable here via an onboard wireless Axis server) and a display, microphone, and speaker for wireless teleconferencing.
I wrote a class that captures from a Matrox Meteor II framegrabber and displays it in a dialog using the Intel Image Processing Library. I've documented it well, unlike most of the capture utilities I've seen out there. Here are the example and just the class. Let me know if these are useful to you..
The live cameras around the CVRR are perpetually changing, so these links are difficult to keep straight. The Brett-Office-cam is still operational when I'm logged in. If you want to check out what's going on outdoors check here and look on the left sidebar or try here for an indoor omni-cam. If you're feeling engergetic you can check the addresses cvrr-axis1.ucsd.edu through cvrr-axis9.ucsd.edu to see which cameras are up at the moment. Sometimes the mobile camera appears on axis9 and our new Omnidirectional camera housing is up!
Not that this is new, but it sure is fun.. zefrank. (check out "how to dance properly"!)
Had a little scuffle with CDialogBar lately, hopefully if you're having trouble with it that link will help. (only windows programmers will care)
Some time ago, I was fooling around with Panavue's panorama software and made a neat Quicktime VR image of the CVRR lab. Check it out. The lab is messy in this picture because we're all in the middle of some projects, like usual.
